Trying To Make Do This Holiday Season
It’s not easy today to shop for holiday or birthday presents when your budget is so tight. Every day you can find promises of good deals, but the truth is that most of these special priced options are limited to the first few customers or that there are only a limited amount. What works better for your budget is limiting your purchases and staying within a set parameter. If the next item on your list is drives you over budget, you simply don’t buy it.
If you get a great deal on a black sport watch but you turn around and find that the GPS accessories on your list for your favorite techno fan push you over the limit, you don’t trade in the watch.
Otherwise you’re just going to end up overspending in an effort to make sure everyone has an equal gift collection under the tree. If you buy transformers for your kid but you’re worried that you need more for your spouse you’re bound to overspend.
When we spend more than we can really afford just to try to prove that we care for our family members and friends equally we are playing into a scenario that only we can break. Evaluated love by the value of the gift sounds a bit preposterous when it is written in black and white, but until we look at our gift buying behavior, we really can’t be sure.
Holiday gifts are really supposed to be more like a token. They are supposed to be meaningful and special in the sense that they are given from the heart, not the price tag. There are many families this year that are facing holiday financial stress and aren’t really sure where to turn.
Sometimes agreeing to spend less on each other, or limit gift buying within the family can relieve everyone’s sense of guilt over not being able to buy enough. This year maybe your family can get back to basics and spend some really good quality time together and have a great meal. Bringing it back to the most basic aspects of the holidays can be more meaningful than how much you can’t spend.
The seasonal difficulties that many families face this year are no doubt disappointing. But since we are all looking to save money, we can all focus a little harder on creating holidays around spending time together, loving one another, mending bridges, and sharing good food together.
